PLTP Rantau Dedap: Next Geothermal Power Plant in Sumatera

NQ News
Monday December 14, 2020

There are 6 production WKPs on the island of Sumatra with a total capacity of 744 MW or the equivalent of 35% of the national PLTP capacity. After WKP Sibayak, Ulu Belu, Sarulla, Lumut Balai, Sorik Marapi, Muara Laboh, then in June 2021, it is WKP Rantau Dedap's turn to become the 7th Production WKP on Sumatra Island. The COD schedule has been delayed quite far from the end of 2020 due to Covid-19 constraints.

Sumatra's geothermal potential is 9,679 MW, equivalent to 40% of the national potential. There are 6 more WKPs that will produce between 2021-2025 namely Jaboi, Seulawah Agam, Hululais, Bukit Daun, Rajabasa and Sungai Penuh.

NewQuest Geotechnology (NQ) traces in the geothermal area of Sumatra Island are found in 12 WKPs, 3 of which are WKP managed by PT Supreme Energy, namely WKP Muara Laboh West Sumatra, WKP Rantau Dedap South Sumatra and WKP Rajabasa Lampung.

In 2012, NQ conducted MT Data Analysis & 3-D Modeling Visualization Services for the 3 WKP Supreme Energy above, this scope of work includes:

  1. Evaluation of Existing MT-TDEM data
  2. Static-shift correction
  3. Geological structure identification based on MT data
  4. 1-D & 2-D inverse Modeling
  5. Visualization of the 3-D MT Model

PLTP Muara Laboh Phase 1 with a capacity of 85 MW has been operating since December 2019. PLTP Muara Laboh Phase 2 with a capacity of 65 MW is in the PPA stage with PLN and is targeted to be COD in 2024.

PLTP Rantau Dedap is under development stage. Meanwhile, the Rajabasa PLTP is still at the exploration stage and is targeted for COD in 2025.

PT Supreme Energy is the pioneer and motor of IPP PLTP in Indonesia. NQ is proud and honored to be able to serve Supreme Energy in its 3 WKP.
