NQ Academy Webinar #4: Geochemical Signatures over Volcanic Geothermal Systems

NQ News, Wednesday, December 16, 2020

Indonesia is located on the Ring of Fire extending from the islands of Sumatera, Java, Nusa Tenggara and towards Maluku as well as North Sulawesi. Therefore, Indonesia is blessed with many geothermal potentials associated with volcanism. From 351 geothermal areas in Indonesia, there are 215 areas are associated with volcanic geothermal systems or about 61% of the total geothermal areas in Indonesia.

Some geothermal areas associated with volcanism are identified as hydrothermal systems, but some others are volcanic hydrothermal systems and quasi-volcanic hydrothermal systems, which still have traces of magmatic fluid. Such geothermal systems often made many geothermal developers decide to not continue their exploration program due to the high acidic and corrosive properties contained in the reservoir fluid that can damage wells as well as surface facilities.

In the exploration stage, geochemistry has significant role to analyze reservoir temperature, fluid origin & flow, as well as fluid quality of geothermal reservoir. Geochemical data should be analyzed carefully and properly in order to better understand the geothermal systems and to give best recommendation for further development. Several volcanic and quasi volcanic geothermal systems are still possible to develop with the guidance of the careful and proper assessment of the geochemical data.

NQ Academy Webinar #4 will discuss an interesting topic about geochemistry entitled “Geochemical Signatures over Volcanic Geothermal Systems” which will be delivered by Dr. Zainal Abidin, Lecturer in Magister Program in Geothermal Exploration, Universitas Indonesia, as well as one of NQ Professional Associate.

We invite you to take part in The 4th NQ Academy Webinar. So, Don't miss it!
